Nix

Grape vines, olive trees and tropical plants along with her many animals, surround her and create an indoor oasis in which she immerses herself. Inspiration comes from spending many hours outdoors observing and drawing, where her animals act as life models.

Nix studied Fine Art at Byam Shaw, Central St Martins. She fell in love with sculpture and the physical energy required to create a piece of artwork whilst studying stone carving with Esther Joseph. This encouraged her to go on to train in figurative and portrait sculpture under Anne Curry from whom she developed her passion for working with clay.

After spending several years experimenting with different materials and techniques, Nix began to explore a way in which she could capture movement and bring sculptures to life. She focuses on her subjects' muscles and bone structure, highlighting specific areas of beauty. She is particularly interested in space and light and how they interact with each other, creating a dialogue of movement.

A fascination with negative space and how it allows room for your imagination to open up has resulted in a unique and original style with it being a very important and recognisable part of her work. The sculptures are patinated in her signature colour of rich, vibrant blues.

"The holey appearance gives the sculptures an ethereal quality whilst maintaining the substance, grace and a sense of movement."
